My First Trunk Sale
6 April 2021
Hello everyone!
This past weekend on April 2nd I had my first trunk sale! It was a fun experience and I am grateful I got the opportunity to go and I’m looking forward to going to more in the future. For this blog update, I want to tell you guys all about my experience doing the sale and where I see this leading in the future.
I guess I should start off by telling you where I did the sale and how I got involved with it. In my hometown of Yelm we have a collection of little shops that are locally owned and each have their own unique aesthetic and products they sell. One of the newest additions is Between Sisters Boutique & Gifts.
Between Sisters is owned by two amazing women, Heidi and Nanette. They created this boutique that supports local artists and gives people in town a fun spot to shop and connect with others. Heidi and Nanette have worked hard in creating a strong sense of community within their business and have succeeded in providing their customers with a personable feel that is warming and welcoming. I‘m fortunate that I was given the opportunity to connect with them and be able to build a one on one relationship with both of them. They have given me amazing support with my earrings and have provided me with a great first step in marketing and selling them. I currently have my own display setup within their store and this is where I do most of my sales, this is also where my first trunk sale happened.
The previous week before my first sale, I was working hard and creating so many pairs of earrings, and I even painted some fun pots for plants. I turned my kitchen into a personal workshop and took over just about every inch. This was the first time that I have had to create products for an actual event happening in my life and I felt a confusing mix of excitement, happiness and nervousness. The whole time that I was making things and painting all I could think was, “are people even going to like this?”, “is my artwork even cool enough?”, “I’m so nervous that nothing will sell.” These thoughts kept me on edge, but I constantly reminded myself that it doesn’t matter if I sell one pair of earrings, all my earrings, or none at all, at the end of the day I’m still gaining an amazing experience while doing something that I enjoy.
After many long nights, I was able to finish all my products, get them all together and prepped for the sale. All those negative thoughts subsided and I was thrilled for my first sale, something I thought I would never achieve. April 2nd hit and I was off to the races, setting up my table and ready to take on customers.
I got a ton of visits from friends and family and I was able to sell enough earrings that it made me happy and I felt accomplished knowing I was making a product others actually wanted. The overall experience of the sale was incredible and I was able to connect with so many great people that I’ve never met before. Looking back on it now, I didn’t care if I sold nothing or everything, I was just grateful for the opportunity to share my passion with others in person and be prideful in the hard-work I poured into my products. I hope that either way, I was able to make an impression on others and make them feel inspired and happy too!
Overall, my first trunk sale experience was amazing and I am so glad I was able to do it and share it with everyone. Now is the time for me to start scouting out other markets I can sell at and come up with new ideas for earrings! I cannot wait till summer and I cannot wait till I can share more ideas, projects, and experiences with you.
Kabenzie :)
